For more information refer to the Student Handbook, available on the Parent page on the Walnut Hills website.

Q: How do I report an all-day absence?

A: Call the All Day Absence Hotline (363-8404).

Absences must be verified within two days of the absence or they will remain unexcused causing any missed assignments, tests or quizzes during the absence to be given zero credit.  To avoid the morning ROBO call, be sure to report your student’s absence before 9:00 am.

Q: What do I do if my student will miss school due to a planned absence?

A: Send them to school with a note.

If you plan for your student to be absent, he or she is required to submit a note explaining why and when they will be absent to the attendance office three days prior to the absent date.  A Planned Absence form will need to be signed by teachers.

Q: What do I do if my student is sick?

A: Keep them home.

Children must be fever, diarrhea and vomit free for 24 hours (without the aid of symptom reducing medication) before they can come back to school, which means they cannot come back the next day.  Illness is always excused.

Q: What do I do if my student is running late?

A: Send them to school with a note.

If your student will arrive late to school, you do not need to call the office.  Please send your student with a note for the attendance office explaining the reason for their tardiness.  If coming from a medical/dental/therapy appointment, a doctor/provider excuse must be provided per the handbook.

Q: What do I do if my student needs to leave school early?

A: Send them to school with a note.

Students leaving early must present a note to the attendance office before 7:30 am explaining where they are going and when they need to leave in order to receive an Early Dismissal Permission Slip.  This permission slip allows students to leave class and meet their transportation outside.

(If the student does not have a note for early dismissal, a parent/guardian/emergency contact must sign out the student with photo ID.  Please do not leave a voicemail.)

Q: What do I do if my student has a change in dismissal?

A: Call the attendance office before 1:00 pm.

If your student has a change of dismissal, please contact the attendance office before 1:00 pm. Please do not leave a voicemail as we cannot guarantee to get the message to your student before the end of the school day. Please make sure you speak to a secretary.

*Please be advised that emailed notes cannot be accepted.

*Please note CPS and the State of Ohio does not recognize “family emergencies” or “family events” as an excused reason for absence.  More detail will need to be provided determine if the absence is excused or not.
