John Chambers Appointed Interim Principal

June 9, 2017

Dear Parents, Faculty, Students, Alumni and Staff,

On June 7, the Cincinnati Public School District approved John E. Chambers as the interim building principal for Walnut Hills for the 2017-2018 school year. This was a recommendation made by the Walnut Hills Local School Decision Making Committee (LSDMC). Mr. Chambers begins his new role on August 1, 2017.

As discussed in my letter of May 17, the permanent building principal candidate recommended by the LSDMC on May 11 withdrew his candidacy soon after our recommendation. The LSDMC then met twice at the end of May to determine next steps. After considering our options, we recommended that an interim building principal be named for the 2017-2018 school year so that our search for a permanent building principal could continue unabated. The LSDMC preferred that an existing Walnut Hills assistant principal with building principal experience serve in this interim capacity. After gauging the interest and qualifications of the current assistant principals at Walnut Hills, we recommended that John Chambers be appointed interim principal of Walnut Hills on May 30.

Mr. Chambers is currently an assistant principal at Walnut Hills and serves as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. Chambers has more than 20 years of teaching and administrative experience, including eight years as an assistant principal at Walnut Hills. Mr. Chambers is a graduate of Wittenberg University and earned his Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Chambers is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Education Leadership at Miami University.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Chambers on his new role.

Stephen Baker ‘82

LSDMC Chairman
