US News ranks Walnut Hills 65th and Newsweek ranks Walnut Hills 66th among U.S. high schools
Out of more than 18,000 public high schools
in the USA, US News ranks Walnut number 65 in the USA and awards WHHS Gold
Medal status.

Each year, Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country based on
how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced-placement
college-level courses and tests. Just over 1.600 schools—only 6 percent of
all the public schools in the U.S.—made the list.
Newsweek has ranked Walnut 66th in the nation and #1 in Ohio.
WHHS Arts & Sciences Center
Dream Becomes Reality. Our 59,000 square
foot Arts and Science Center opened to students in October, 1999. It has
replaced the 1931 science labs, provided the art and science departments
with state-of-the-art facilities with world-class technology, and totally
eliminated temporary classrooms from the campus. It is more than
bricks and mortar. It is a blank slate for allowing us to forge
collaborations in the college and university arenas, some of which include:
- The use of Measurenet in our Chemistry labs. Measurenet is a patent pending system developed by the University of Cincinnati.
- DNA research study with the University of Cincinnati.
- Collaboration with Northern Kentucky University on endangered plant species for our environmental courtyard (the first in the country).
- Ohio State University is offering its Introduction to Engineering program to WHHS students.
The new building has given us a graphic design studio, expanded photography labs where we can offer color photography and videography, and an outdoor art sculpture courtyard to do large three dimensional art.
Art and Music are still required for all students, and in keeping with our classical liberal arts curriculum, Walnut Hills offers more Advanced Placement classes than any school in the nation (public or private).
Not only is our curriculum innovative, the WHHS Alumni Foundation has set
a new standard nationally in fundraising - the precedent-setting
public/private partnership - private funding for public education. We have
shared our knowledge and enthusiasm with dozens of school systems locally
and throughout the country. We hope that our leadership will continue to
spark interest from coast to coast.
The Arts and Science Center is a tangible demonstration of the
tremendous affection of alumni and friends for our school. We have reached
$11 million of our $12 million goal because of the enthusiasm of our alumni
and friends. If you have already joined us
in this Alumni Foundation inaugural project, we sincerely thank you.
If you haven’t, we hope that you will take the opportunity now to show your
commitment to Walnut Hills. If you are interested in becoming a donor,
