US News ranks Walnut Hills 65th and Newsweek ranks Walnut Hills 66th among U.S. high schools

Out of more than 18,000 public high schools in the USA, US News ranks Walnut number 65 in the USA andawards WHHS Gold Medal status.

Each year, Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced-placement college-level courses and tests. Just over 1.600 schools—only 6 percent of all the public schools in the U.S.—made the list.

Newsweek has ranked Walnut 66th in the nation and #1 in Ohio.

Computer Lab
The WHHS Computer Science program provides students with the theories, principles and practices to use and design software that permits them to solve challenging problems.

The WHHS Computer Science Department offers a practical orientation to computer science with cutting-edge classes in application development and usage, a congenial, accessible faculty; and an active student population.

As a small, collegial department, we support high-quality training that helps our students become technology leaders.  We strongly encourage independent thinking and initiative.

Our highly qualified faculty enjoys teaching and software development in many areas such as:  Stock Market Simulations, Games and Virtual Environments, Medical Record Systems, Database Modeling, Scheduling Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Software Engineering, Object Oriented Programming and iPhone Development

Our Current Course Offerings

Gale Research
AP Computer Science. The course emphasizes object-oriented programming methodology with a
concentration on problem solving and algorithm development, and is meant to be the
equivalent of a first-semester college-level course in computer science.
Gale Research
Intro to Programming. This course will teach students how to efficiently program computers using Microsoft programming languages.  Students will be introduced to Windows-style programming and problem solving and students will study Visual Basic syntax, forms properties, and controls.

This course is recommended for students who are interested in exploring using the computer to solve business, mathematical, and engineering problems.
Gale Research
Web Design Fundamentals. This course will teach students how to design and create Internet pages using web development/application software
such as Front Page & Dreamweaver and graphics application software such as Adobe Photoshop. Students will assist in building pages for the Walnut Hills website along with creating their own web sites.
Gale Research
Computer Apps I.  The course is designed to develop  students' ability to become power users of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
 
Students will use the computer as a tool to create, edit, produce, finalize real world spreadsheets and documents and apply these skills to the completion of assignments made in the classroom.

Computer Apps II.  The course will teach students how to think creatively and use industry-standard applications to develop cutting-edge projects.
